Robinhood Ventures Invests in Unifold as We Make USDG More Accessible

Robinhood Ventures has invested in Unifold. We are also working with the Robinhood ecosystem as a launch partner for Robinhood Chain, helping make USDG easier to access from fiat, exchanges, wallets, and assets across other chains.

For us, the investment is especially meaningful because our relationship with Robinhood extends well beyond funding.

Robinhood has spent more than a decade changing what people expect from financial products. It took experiences that were historically complex, expensive, and built for professionals, and made them feel simple enough for anyone to use.

We think onchain finance is now reaching a similar moment.

Onchain apps are starting to feel like great fintech products

For years, the biggest gap in crypto was not what could be built onchain. It was the experience required to actually use it.

That is starting to change.

A new generation of onchain applications is emerging with user experiences that can rival traditional fintech. Products like Fomo show what happens when the blockchain disappears into the background and the user can simply open an app, fund an account, and start using it.

That shift matters.

When users no longer have to think about wallets, bridges, gas, chains, and token formats, the addressable market for onchain applications becomes much larger.

We believe Robinhood has the opportunity to push that shift forward for the entire industry.

Robinhood was one of the first companies to prove that investing could feel like a consumer product rather than a piece of financial infrastructure. Robinhood Chain has the opportunity to do something similar for onchain finance.

As an early mover, Robinhood can help set the standard for what the next generation of onchain financial applications should feel like.

That is a future we want to help build.

This is a problem our team has been working on for years

Before Unifold, our team spent years building infrastructure used by products and ecosystems including Phantom, Polymarket, and Solana.

That experience gave us a close view of where onchain user experiences still break down.

The application itself can be great, but getting money into it is often still too complicated.

A user might have dollars in a bank account, funds sitting on Coinbase or Binance, USDC on another chain, or crypto in a wallet.

The application might only accept one asset on one network.

Historically, the user was expected to figure out everything in between.

We built Unifold because we think that complexity belongs in the infrastructure layer, not in front of the user.

Robinhood Chain brings more of finance onchain

Robinhood Chain is Robinhood's Layer 2 blockchain built for financial services and tokenized real-world assets.

As more financial products move onchain, blockchains can become the underlying settlement layer for trading, lending, payments, tokenized assets, and entirely new financial applications.

But bringing assets onchain is only one side of the equation.

People still need an easy way to get money into those applications.

This is where we believe infrastructure like Unifold becomes increasingly important.

Developers should not have to separately integrate every exchange, wallet, fiat provider, bridge, liquidity source, and blockchain their users might come from.

And users should not have to understand any of those systems just to make a deposit.

Making USDG more accessible

USDG is becoming an important part of the Robinhood Chain ecosystem.

We believe stablecoins like USDG can become a core settlement layer for the next generation of financial applications.

But issuance is only part of what makes a stablecoin useful.

Distribution matters.

If an application settles in USDG, a user should not first need to figure out where to buy it, which chain their assets currently live on, which bridge supports Robinhood Chain, whether they have enough gas, or how to withdraw from an exchange.

The application should simply be able to say: deposit.

Unifold handles the complexity underneath.

One deposit experience, regardless of where the money starts

Unifold is universal deposit infrastructure for onchain applications.

Developers integrate one SDK and can give users multiple ways to fund an application, including wallets, centralized exchanges, bank accounts, cards, and assets on other blockchains.

Underneath that experience, Unifold orchestrates the providers, routes, assets, networks, gas requirements, and settlement steps needed to get the user to the asset and chain the application actually wants.

For an application on Robinhood Chain, that means a user can start with the money they already have and arrive in USDG on Robinhood Chain without manually navigating every step in between.

The infrastructure can be complicated.

The user experience should not be.

That is the same philosophy we see behind the best new onchain applications, and one of the reasons we are so excited about what Robinhood can bring to the space.

Robinhood can help set the standard

Every major shift in financial technology has had companies that changed what users came to expect.

Robinhood did that for retail investing.

We think it can do it again for onchain finance.

If Robinhood Chain can combine the openness and programmability of blockchain infrastructure with the kind of consumer experience Robinhood is known for, it can raise the bar for the entire industry.

That is important beyond any one chain or one company.

The more users experience onchain products that feel as intuitive as the best fintech apps, the harder it becomes for the industry to accept fragmented deposits, confusing bridging flows, and infrastructure exposed directly to the user.

That pushes everyone forward.

We want Unifold to be part of that transition by making the funding layer disappear into the background.

Why Robinhood Ventures

Robinhood's mission has always centered around expanding access to financial markets.

For most of financial history, the earliest stages of a company were closed to almost everyone. Owning a piece of a business in its first years was reserved for insiders and institutions, and everyone else waited for an IPO.

Robinhood is working to open that up as well.

That mission resonates strongly with how we think about Unifold.

Moving money into an onchain application should not require a user to become an expert in wallets, exchanges, bridges, stablecoins, or blockchain networks.

Developers should be able to abstract those systems away and give users an experience that feels as straightforward as depositing money into any other financial application.

Having Robinhood Ventures invest in Unifold makes that alignment even more meaningful.

We are building infrastructure for a world where the distinction between a fintech application and an onchain application becomes increasingly invisible to the user.

Where this could go one day

The Robinhood Ventures funds are listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which means anyone with a brokerage account can own a piece of a portfolio of early-stage companies.

Robinhood Chain is built for tokenized real-world assets, and Robinhood already issues Stock Tokens for listed equities on it.

So it is not hard to imagine a future where an asset like that settles onchain alongside everything else, and the two kinds of access Robinhood is opening up meet in the same place.

If that future arrives, the last step between a user and the asset is the same step it always is: getting money in.

That is the part we are building.

What comes next

We are continuing to build the deposit entry point for onchain money, infrastructure that lets an application accept value across different chains, tokens, wallets, exchanges, and fiat payment methods through one integration.

Robinhood Chain is a particularly exciting place to put that infrastructure to work.

As more assets, liquidity, and applications launch on the network, we want developers to focus on the financial products they are building instead of maintaining dozens of different ways for users to fund them.

A user should be able to arrive with whatever they already have.

Unifold gets them the rest of the way.

We are proud to have Robinhood Ventures backing that vision and proud to be working with the Robinhood ecosystem from day one.

Thank you Sarah Pinto Peyronel, Richard Aberman, Jason Boehmig and the whole Robinhood Ventures team for the trust.
